Have you ever had one of those weeks where nothing, and I mean nothing, went as planned or went right??? Everything you touched turned to dirt and crud and you felt that each new day you were getting a little deeper into the muck and the mire???
And then there are the other Christians you know…….you know, the ones who write those Wonderful, All inspiring Christmas Letters each year where:
We moved into our new house and it is wonderful…..our neighbors are all Christians and they gave us a house warming party in our honor
Our Christmas present from our parents was a new BMW X5……ah…awwwwww……they shouldn’t have!!!
All the Kids made straight A’s this year and little Jimmy is doing Research at Clemson at age 16.
Our oldest daughter, Chastity, is up for the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with ISIS and the Iraqi government
And our oldest son, Bartholomew, PHD Research Scientist at Emory University, is close to a cure for Ebola
And we have all been on two Missions trips this year where 365 people from the Hmong tribe made a profession of faith and 17 people got healed of leprosy and I had the honor of casting out 3 demons……
In my favorite movie, Chariots of Fire, Harold Abrams, the Jewish 100 yd dash sprinter, makes this statement:
“I’m forever in pursuit and I don’t even know what I am chasing….And now in one hour’s time, I will be out there again. I will raise my eyes and look down that corridor, with 10 lonely seconds to justify my whole existence.”
So where do YOU get your self worth? How do you justify your existence? Is it caught up in your family, your wife or husband, your performance at work or on the mission field or at your church, or any of the prestigious and famous Humans you know, or the trips you take, or your material possessions??
Sometimes we just need to reset!!!
And now I feel the Lord is speaking to me, “IF I had justified my existence this week on all or any of the above, I would probably be swinging from a rope like Robin Williams.”
But 1 Corinthians 6:11 says………
“And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
I needed a Good Dose of Low Self-Esteem this week to remember WHO justifies my worth…….and I am trying to suck up the courage to thank God for it……
